K Chico - Burn - Blues Beat

Here's a cool blues beat little electronica thing by K Chico. It sounds like the opening for the Sopranno's if it was remixed by a heroin addict. You know it's that Grinderman/ Nick Cave brain melting vibe coated with a syrup dripping upright and gentle wave of white noise. Southern mellow guitar plucks and pitched-down vocals channeling Tom Wait on salvia divinorum... this is the kind music that heroin kid on Treme should be making. The video is drenched with sweaty morphs, telling the story of a model and photographer on blurry whirlwind adventure to nowhere. There's a few interesting animations that are added on such as ink spills, fractal make-up flames, subtle optical flares, and basic composites. The overall effect is a slow motion drug trip exploring glamour and beauty.

Roll Deep "Nasty" escapes from the madhouse!

Here's a grimey thump and grind from Roll Deep crew. Drill press bass and crispy beats carry this war anthem. It's a back street battle of megaphones rants and venomous bars, the kind that get's you hyped for an all-out brawl. The spit so fast you never see the sucker punch coming. It's a hard hitting, blood-pumping, get up and break shit kind of tune. The video is no less unsettling. It's like an updated Metallica's "One'. Black and white straight-jacket portraits of Roll Deep losing their shit and giving themselves crappy tattoos with a broken gun inside an asylum. Entertaining.

Cypress x Rusko - "Roll It, Light It" West Coast Grimestep

What a great collaboration between Cypress Hill, Rusko and director Jodeb. "Roll It, Light It" does what it says on the tin. It's a deep dubstep roller with slightly glitched-out hiccups and Cypress crew spitting slick grimey bars to the riddim. The rhymes are faster than you typical Cypress tune and seem fall into Grime-esque patterns, but that could just be because of the dubstep beats and association with it. Anyways this style doesn't always work, but here it's a freaking home run. Cypress are running ting's all up and down this tune, but they aren't making jibberish and bum-rushing the flow. Quickfire burst, then mellow chorus, let the tune breathe, then back into it. Future MC's take note, that's the way it's done. The video itself is a gorgeous train ride through collapsing monuments, broken glitch loops, Plexus vectors animations and color tearing separations. Newton-fueled down-rezzing and broken pixelization echos the grinding bit-crushed bass, harmonizing into a luscious aural and video landscape. It's edited quick and punchy but you still get a proper look at all the beautiful renders and slow destruction. Fucking aces.

Bashy feat Giggs - Backhand P.R.I.C.K.S

Bangers and Smash tipped me off to another hot one. Bashy kills it with this rather even-handed but thugged-out tune about haters and envious fanboys. Seem's to be alot of that going around at the moment with D Double E doing a similar tune called "Never Be Like Me" or some shit. Anyways I prefer the Bashy one as the beats are way more aggy with military snares layer with white noise claps and big slapping sub.

"You know why I got white gold and platinum? - Why's that? Because I wasn't born with a silver spoon and I grind for that money, fam. I grind for it." Motion graphics are on the crude side for this video with brightly colored late 90's styled vector art that's a bit on the sloppy side. Kinetic type treatment, jump cuts, twitches and crude transitions actually make this very watchable. The animations are a bit rough and visual themes are obvious but that's the point. It unifies it in a raw aesthetic that vibes well the sonic growl of Bashy and Giggs. The video ends with a great quote form Honore De Balzac "Envy is the most stupid of vices, for there is no single advantage to be gained from it."

Kraddy - "Black Box" Video

Here's the video for the free Kraddy track I posted up a few months ago, you check out the review here for what I had to say on the tune: http://bomborafallout.blogspot.com/2011/09/kraddy-black-box-free-track.html To paraphrase I basically said it was a breakbeat strip club grinder. The video pretty much confirms the sexualized intention of this tune.

It's a slow motion hipster party, interrupted by times jitters. There's drunken revelers in goofy party hats drinking out of glass skull sifters, doing coke off a scratched cd. Smoking joints in the hallways of an unassuming house party.

Until she gets there. The crazy platinum blond with a ratted out dye-job sticking out of her knitted hat, looking like a White Zombie roadie. She struts through the party on a mission and finally stumbles into her arch enemy. That bitch with the black hair and red lipstick. BOOM! Throwdown time. These two chicks break into an epic cat fight. Hairs is pulled, bongs are thrown, cocaine is spilled, and tables are knocked over. There is a bunch of shoving, falling down and groping. After they tear through the party in a whirlwind brawl. Meanwhile the beat is grinding, sputtering and throbbing it's way to it's peak. The video climaxes with them somehow landing in the hot tub for a full blown make-out session. It's actually kind of predictable really since you never seen a punch being thrown, or anyone catching an elbow in the eye or a boot to the gut. But there you go.

I love this video. Made with ferrofluids (fluid that reacts to magnetism), a magnet, soap bubbles, and dye this video tells a simple and energetic story. I'll be fucked if I know what the story is, just an abstract tale really. A life/death cycle? A journey of discovery? A chemical rite of passage? The ambiguity is the charm here. That and the soundscape matches perfectly with the frantic energy of theses macro exploring visuals. What's you're take on it?

WILEY & CHEW FU - TAKE THAT VIDEO

Firing new grime-electro rocker from WileyGrime Wave [Explicit] and Chew Fu. The video is a bit much, not sure what's up with them girls. The one is looking quite tranny and keeps on giving a gas face. Video aside, I can't deny the rawness of this track. A simple aggro anthem, enough to wake me from my C'thulu slumber and post up again. Chew Fu on the buttons scrawls his signature hip-hop electro fusion with with dirty synths and crunchy beats. Get on it.

Tempa-T Work-out Vid vs. Fletcher

Only thing I can say is what the fuck? Really goofy shit right here. It's kinda funny and kinda sad all at the same time. But then take a listen to Fletcher, it's straight murder and very similar to Next Hype.



SO what I'm saying is we need a remix mash-up: Tempa-T Work-Out vs Flecther. Grime world and dubstep producers hop to it! The challenge is clear.

Distance ft. Alys - Falling Video

This Distance tune has been pretty rinsed at this point, and usually that's when a video will pop and make sense, so chances are most of you have heard this one in a bunch of top players sets and already have your opinion about the tune. I like it, it's moody, got a nice buzzing bass and a pop vocal line from Alys. A pretty straight forward tune. The video is no different really, just a slo-motion breaker, with some clever edits and speed ramps. It's standard, tastefully done, but could have been pushed much further. I'm glad cliched paint drips, water splashes, dust impacts didn't make there way into this, but nothing really transcends the literal here either. This could benefit from a good twist and a slight break from the typical dance video tropes. But hell, I'm happy for Distance, the man is a don, and has been making stonkers and hard tunes for ages. Good for him getting a video out there.

EMALKAY - CRUSADER promo video

Old school drum n bass tune doen @140 BPMs from Emalkay on Dub Police. You gotta love those classic hoover basslines matched-up with a two-step beat. It even has some bleeps and a ragga snippet. This video has a very nostaglic kind of local cable channel feel to it. Around the Chicago area we had JBTV and it looks like this would have fit right in during the late 90's. Plenty of standard video tricks, like bee-vision, granular dissolves, and traffic time-laspes gives this that warm old school vibe. And it's in black and white! If you even stayed up late at night watching Friday Night videos, drinking too much coke and eating cheetos, this one's for you.

Flying Lotus - Zodiac Shit

My buddy Chris Hamilton from work shared me this link of this wicked bit of animation from Lilfuchs in that 60's Superjail evolving-zoom style. This is tune is from Flying Lotuses "Cosmogramma". I wonder if the digital burp noise was added in post or if it was in the original track. Either way feast on some eye and ear candy...

Sukh Knight Ft. P.Money – Slang Like This (Official Video)

This tune is pure murder, and it's really cool to see a proper video for it. This what happens when the best of grime and dubstep collab with each other's strengths instead of mashing contrasting styles. Suhk Knight hits you with a murky riddim, and P. Money spits an anthem. It's got a flow and energy that can't be beat, each verse ripping your head off like a jackhammer. BTW, I love the intro, the drop really knocks you with an unexpected upper cut. There's plenty of humor mixed with the serious demeanor of the shots, that gives added interest to this, so it's not just another badman stance video. The randoms, cameos and extras, spitting along side P Money, who is wearing a shoe-laced hat on journey through the 'jects, is done in a pretty clever way. Well done all around I say. Shouts to YouDunKnow for the scoop. Safe bredrin.

B Live feat. Skepta, Newham Generals & Spyda - Modern Warfare 2

Copped this one offa Hyperfrank. You may have first heard this scorcher on this years Plastician's May mix. It's really cool to hear the full track and see a vid with it. What is it about Spyda's vocals that just turns every tune epic in scope? That guy is just the perfect polish to any grime tune, giving it just a proper rude edge. Anyway's this one's a no-scope killer, so rendezvous at Bravo checkpoint and keep your head down.

Flying Lotus - Kill Your Co-Workers

Behold the glory of low-poly violence! This is a uplifting little drumstep/electro kind of tune, and fits right at home with Warp Records camp. It's a bit different from the normal Flying Lotus dubstep that you might be used to, as it's filled with all kinds of electro bit-crushed beeps and twisted casio sounds. Man, I obviosly don't know how to record club video very well on my iPhone, the sound on this is extremely blow out, so please turn it almost all the way down (at least to a quarter of the full volume). I'm fully not responsible for you destroying your speakers or eardrums if you don't heed my warning. This is more about just giving the vibe of this raw B2B w/ Skream and Rusko. It was amazing, one of the best dubstep gigs I've ever been to hands down. Thanks to Drew at SMOG and Brandon from Further Sound for putting this on. All the DJs (Pablo Hassan, Juan Basshead, 12th Planet, Richie August) killed it that night, but Skream B2B Rusko was extra SICK! Just a rarity that hasn't happened in like 5 years.

D Double E - Streetfighter

At long last we have the D Double E - Streetfighter video and I have to say it's a bit of a let down. I love the tune, no spits like D Double, but the freshman level Motion Graphics is pretty wack on this. Just a little too obvious and literal with the illustrative, typographic lyrics. I feel like I've seen it before. Still, love the the tune, even though it's been quite rinsed at this point.

DJ Fresh - Gold Dust Video

Fresh has always been hit or miss for me, but I really dig this tune. It's got a nice vocal line and doesn't go over the top with pop sweetness and polish. This jump roping video just kinda connects with the summertime vibe of the song, and I think it works pretty good. Check out the dude in the Bears hat repping Chicago!

Redlight feat Roses Gabor - Stupid Video

This one slipped past me, it was posted back up in April. I loved this tune every since I've heard Zinc drop it on Rinse in instrumental form. I'm well feeling the vocal mix as well, which is a rarity I must admit. This video has a african voodoo witch doctor night club vibe, and feature lots of glow-in-the dark body paint. Reminds me of some Hype Williams Busta Rhymes/ Missy Elliot vids, minus the fisheye lens and slightly less cheesy. Anyways good fun, check it out.
